Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week raises awareness of effective programs for children’s mental health needs, demonstrates how children’s mental health initiatives promote positive youth development, recovery and resilience, and shows how children with mental health needs thrive in their communities. In conjunction with Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced that May 8 will be a national day of recognition. During the month of May, please wear a green ribbon to show your support for services that provide assistance to children with mental health disorders and their families.

The rally is sponsored by Advocates for Reforming Medicaid Services (ARMS) and will be held at the Cabinet for Health and Family Services at 275 E. Main St. in Frankfort. Our focus is to publicize the terrible budget that was passed by the 2008 General Assembly and how that budget is going to impact human services. We simply cannot “tighten our belt” as there is no belt left to tighten. We want the Cabinet to tell us what the important issues are and then let us work with them on those issues. We need and want leadership from the Cabinet. Join us and hear the stories of how this budget is going to impact human services.
